Free things to do in Tbilisi

During travelling, most of the time we have to pay a fee to discover something new. However, in some locations, you can enjoy for free. Do you wonder what you can do in Tbilisi without
spending a gel? In the article, you will find out interesting activities that can be done without money and you can really enjoy your spare time in the town. Have a look and share your
experience.

1. Chronicle of Georgia

It is one of the most popular touristic destinations in Tbilisi. Monument is located near Tbilisi sea and it was built in 1985. The monument sits at the top of a large set of stairs. 16 pillars are between 30–35 meters tall and the top half features kings, queens and heroes while the bottom part depicts stories from the life of Christ. It is a great location to go with family, friends or even
alone to have some fresh air, enjoy the majestic views and swim in the Tbilisi sea in Summertime. So, It will cost you just several laris (Gel) to get there by taxi.

2.Old Tbilisi

Old Tbilisi is the main attraction of the city and place, where visitors spend most of their time. It is called Old Tbilisi because this is the oldest settlement in town and real Tbilisi history started
from there, when King Vakhtang Gorgasali found out Sulphur waters there and named this city Tbilisi. Historical churches, wine shops, cafes, beautiful architecture will be a nice experience to
try and Legvtakhevi waterfall is also an amazing place to visit to explore nature and click nice pictures for your social media.

 

3)Visit famous churches

Georgia is an Eastern Orthodox country and churches have a very important part of their lives. In Tbilisi, you can find a lot of cathedrals you can visit to explore more about Georgian culture.
There are ancient churches with incredible beauty, history and decorated interiors. I suggest you visit Sioni Cathedral which was initially built in the 6th and 7th centuries and reconstructed from the 17th to 19th centuries. There is located St. Nino’s cross and a miraculous stone of grace brought from Jerusalem by St. David of Gareja. Holy Trinity Cathedral – the third-tallest Eastern Orthodox cathedral in the world which was constructed between 1995 to 2004. It is a synthesis of traditional ancient and modern architecture. 87 meters height Holy Trinity Cathedral is a famous tourist destination.

4)Relax in the parks

Tbilisi is a very rich city with parks and almost every step you can find them to sit and enjoy your time. I can suggest you a few of the most visited parks, so you just choose and try them out.
Mtatsminda Park is first on my list because first of all it is located on top of Mount Mtatsminda at 770 meters in height overlooking the Georgian capital Tbilisi and secondly it has a lot of activities that you will love to try. You can get there by the funicular or the cable car. Rike park – It is a popular place for both local and international visitors, especially in Summer. The park has an artificial climbing wall, children’s maze, mega-chess board, cable car and very popular Bridge Of Peace. Vake Park – Restaurants, cafe-bars, open-air cinema and cable car (that connects the park to Turtle Lake) is a lovely park to spend your time well.

5)Visit the Dry Bridge

It is a flea market where you can find practically everything: medals, flags, pins, hats and antique stuff. It is open 24/7 So, you might find it interesting to visit and buy things that you like at
affordable prices.

6)Lisi lake

It is a great getaway to relax and enjoy nature. There is Infrastructure around the lake: Walking and cycling paths(3 kilometers), open type cafe-bars, children’s entertainment and
sports entertainment spaces and a climbing wall for children. There are several facilities on-site, where it is possible to rent a bicycle. Also, there is a beach near the lake, where you can
sunbathe or enjoy your picnic in the forest.
