A question we hear often from families finishing a Georgia itinerary with us goes something like this. “We are already this close, should we add Armenia too? Does that mean another visa?”
The honest answer depends on who is asking. An Indian citizen flying in from Delhi faces a different process than an Indian professional living in Dubai on a UAE residence permit, and most guides blur the two together.
This guide from Travel Door, a Tbilisi based DMC running trips across Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, covers the Armenia visa for Indian citizens and UAE residents as it actually stands right now.
Do Indian Citizens and UAE Residents Need a Visa for Armenia?
It depends on your residence status, not just your passport. Indian citizens holding a valid US, UK, Schengen or GCC visa can get a visa on arrival at the Armenian border. Indian citizens without one of those apply for an e-visa in advance. Indian citizens and other nationals holding a valid UAE residence permit, separate from a visa, can enter visa free under a temporary exemption confirmed through 1 July 2027.
Which route is yours
| Your situation | Route | What it involves |
| Plain Indian passport, no foreign visa | E-visa in advance | Online application, insurance and supporting documents |
| Indian passport with a valid US, UK, Schengen or GCC visa | Visa on arrival at the border | Processed on the spot at the crossing or airport |
| Valid UAE residence permit (any nationality on the list) | Visa free, no visa needed | Enter directly with passport and permit |
Visa on Arrival: The Route Most Guides Get Wrong

If you already hold a valid visa or residence card from the US, UK, Schengen area, or a GCC country, you do not need to apply for anything in advance. You can get a visa on arrival directly at Armenian border crossings and Zvartnots Airport by presenting that visa alongside your passport.
This includes overland crossings from Georgia, which matters if your trip combines both countries. You fill in a short arrival form and the visa is processed and attached to your passport on the spot, with the fee set by the Armenian authorities and payable at the point of entry.
Several competing guides claim Indians cannot get a visa on arrival at all. That is only true if you do not already hold one of those qualifying visas. If you do, it is genuinely the simplest route, and we see guests use it at the Georgia-Armenia land border regularly.
The E-Visa Route, If You Do Not Qualify for Visa on Arrival
If you hold only a standard Indian passport with no US, UK, Schengen or GCC visa, you apply online before you travel.

Steps on the official portal
- Go to the official Armenia e-visa portal and check eligibility.
- Complete the application with passport details and a digital photo.
- Upload travel insurance, and either a qualifying visa copy or a supporting document package.
- Pay the fee online, at the current rate shown on the official portal.
- Wait for a decision, officially up to 3 working days, sometimes longer in practice.
What that supporting package means
Since November 2024, Indian applicants without a qualifying visa must submit all four of these together: a return flight ticket, an invitation letter from an Armenian entity or individual, a bank statement showing sufficient funds, and travel insurance. Travel insurance itself is mandatory for every Indian applicant, regardless of route.
Single entry limit
Both e-visa durations are single entry, so if your route leaves Armenia and plans to re-enter, for example after a side trip into Georgia, that single visa will not cover the return leg. Plan for this before you travel, not after. Current fee amounts for each duration are published directly on the official portal and are worth checking at the time you apply, since they are set by the Armenian government and can change.
Can UAE Residents Enter Armenia Without a Visa?

How the exemption works
Armenia runs a temporary visa exemption for nationals of 111 countries holding a valid residence permit from the US, EU, Schengen states, UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or Oman. India is confirmed on that list, item 49 on the official exemption list published by Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The current window runs from 1 July 2026 to 1 July 2027, allowing a stay of up to 180 days within a year, with nothing charged at the border.
This is an exemption, not a visa issued on the spot. If you qualify, nothing is stamped or paid for. You simply enter.
The conditions that trip people up
Your UAE residence permit must be valid for at least six months counting from your actual entry date into Armenia, not your booking date. It needs to be shown as a physical card or passport sticker, with your name, nationality, date of birth and validity period in Latin script.
Does a standard Emirates ID alone count, without the residence visa page in your passport? We have not found a definitive answer to this specific question. Carry your passport with the residence visa page regardless, since every source agrees that document qualifies, and confirm the Emirates ID question with Armenian authorities before relying on it.
A UAE visit or tourist visa does not qualify. This route is built around actual residence status.
Is Travel Insurance Mandatory for Armenia?
Yes, for every Indian applicant, whether you are using a visa on arrival or the e-visa route. This runs alongside a similar requirement already in place for Georgia, so if your trip covers both countries, make sure your policy satisfies each country’s specific requirement rather than assuming one covers both.

Why Armenia E-Visa Applications from India Get Refused
- An incomplete supporting document package, missing one of the four required items.
- Name or passport details that do not match across documents.
- A bank statement that looks thin for the trip length.
- An unclear stated purpose of visit.
If refused, the fee is not returned, and you need to correct the issue and reapply. A complete, consistent file the first time matters more than speed.
Combining Georgia and Armenia: What to Sort Before You Fly
Your Georgia visa status and your Armenia visa status are entirely separate, and qualifying for one does not carry over to the other. Many travelers combining both countries cross overland through the Sadakhlo border on the Georgia side, which is exactly where the visa on arrival route becomes useful for qualifying visa holders.
If you are still deciding whether to start in Tbilisi or Yerevan, our guide on planning the route order across Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan covers how that decision affects logistics beyond visas.
A Pattern We See from Guests Flying in from the Gulf
A good number of our guests from Dubai and other Gulf cities already hold valid UAE residence permits, which makes their Armenia leg straightforward once they understand the exemption applies to them directly. What trips people up is not the exemption itself, it is the permit validity window. We have had guests whose permit expired within a few months of travel, falling short of the six month requirement by the time they actually landed. Check your permit’s expiry against your arrival date in Armenia, not your booking date, before finalising flights.
A Note from Our Team
“Travel Door does not issue visas, so we always tell guests to confirm edge case details directly with Armenian authorities. What we can do is help the Georgia and Armenia legs of a trip actually work together, and flag the timing issues, like permit validity or the single entry limit, that catch travelers out most often.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Do Indians need a visa for Armenia?
It depends on your documents. With a qualifying US, UK, Schengen or GCC visa, you get a visa on arrival. Without one, you apply for an e-visa in advance. With a valid UAE residence permit, you may not need a visa at all.
Can Indians get a visa on arrival in Armenia?
Yes, if you already hold a valid US, UK, Schengen or GCC visa or residence card, including at land borders from Georgia. Without one of those, visa on arrival is not available and you need the e-visa instead.
How much does the Armenia e-visa cost?
The fee depends on the visa duration you choose and is set by the Armenian government. Check the current amount directly on the official e-visa portal before applying, since government fees can change.
Can UAE residents enter Armenia without a visa?
Yes, under a temporary exemption running to 1 July 2027, provided the UAE residence permit is valid for at least six months from the entry date. India is confirmed on the eligible country list.
Is travel insurance mandatory for Armenia?
Yes, for every Indian applicant, on both the visa on arrival and e-visa routes.
Can I enter Armenia from Georgia by road?
Yes. If you qualify for visa on arrival, it is available at the land border. If you are on an e-visa, remember it is single entry, so leaving and re-entering Armenia needs planning around that limit.
