Why Visit Batumi
Batumi sits where the Caucasus Mountains meet the Black Sea, and that mix of geography is what makes it feel different from the rest of Georgia. Cobbled Old Town streets sit a short walk from glass towers and a boulevard that curls along the coastline for kilometres. Subtropical gardens, palm trees, and a mild “velvet season” climate in early autumn have made Batumi a resort city for over a century.
Couples find quiet boulevard walks and sunset views. Families get beaches, a Ferris wheel, and a dolphinarium. Adventure travellers use the city as a base for canyons, waterfalls, and mountain villages in the Adjara backcountry. Two or three days covers the highlights; four or five lets you add the mountains too.
What a Batumi Tour Covers
A Batumi tour is a guided visit to Batumi, the capital of the Adjara region on Georgia's Black Sea coast, and to the attractions around it. A standard city tour takes 3 to 4 hours on foot and covers Batumi Boulevard, Europe Square, Piazza Square, the Old Town, the Alphabet Tower and the Ali and Nino sculpture.
Most travellers add at least one half-day outside the city, usually the Botanical Garden, Gonio Fortress, or Makhuntseti Waterfall in upper Adjara. Two to four nights is enough for the city plus two day trips.
Batumi is unusual among Georgian destinations because three very different landscapes sit within an hour of each other. The city itself is modern and dense, with a pedestrian seafront running for about 8 kilometres. Ten minutes north the coast turns subtropical, with tea terraces and a botanical garden planted on a headland above the sea. Half an hour inland the road climbs into Adjarian rainforest, arched stone bridges and waterfalls.

What to Eat in Batumi
No Batumi tour is complete without Adjarian khachapuri, the region's boat-shaped bread filled with melted cheese, a raw egg and a slab of butter that the server usually mixes in for you. It was invented here and is genuinely better in Batumi than almost anywhere else in Georgia.
Beyond khachapuri, look for khinkali (large broth-filled dumplings, best eaten by hand), sinori, a layered dough dish specific to Adjara, and fresh Black Sea fish grilled simply with herbs. Pair any meal with Adjaran wine or a glass of chacha, and finish with churchkhela sold from stalls along the boulevard.

When to Go
The season runs May to October. July and August are hot, humid and busy. May, June and September give warm sea with far fewer people. Rain is possible in any month since Adjara is subtropical, so we usually keep a cave or museum day in reserve on longer stays.
Getting to Batumi

Getting Around Once You Are There
The Old Town, Europe Square, Piazza and the boulevard are all walkable. Everything outside that needs a vehicle, which is why our Batumi excursions include a car and driver for the whole day.

Two nights covers the city and one excursion. Three nights is the comfortable minimum if you want the Botanical Garden and the Adjara waterfalls as well.

Can you do Batumi as a day trip from Tbilisi?
It is possible by domestic flight, but not comfortably by road, since the drive is about 6 hours each way. We recommend at least one overnight.

Yes. Piazza Square, the Old Town, Europe Square, the Alphabet Tower and the boulevard form a loop of about 4 to 5 kilometres on flat ground.
What is the single best excursion from Batumi?
