Georgia Visa Requirements for Indian Citizens: Do You Need One in 2026?

Every summer, our reservations desk in Tbilisi gets the same message from Indian families a few days before they fly.

Our visa is approved. Do we need anything else at the airport?

At Travel Door, we have been receiving Indian guests at Tbilisi International Airport since 2017. This guide answers that question, and every one before it, from what we see in the arrival hall each season.

Do Indian Citizens Need a Visa for Georgia?

Yes. Indian passport holders need a visa for Georgia unless they hold a valid visa or residence permit from the US, UK, Schengen area, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Israel, Ireland or a GCC country. There is no visa on arrival. Most Indians apply for an eVisa online, and since 1 January 2026 every tourist also needs health insurance.

eVisa or Visa Free: Which Route Applies to You?

Your route depends on one thing: whether you hold a valid visa or residence permit from an approved country.

Visa free entry for Indians with a US, UK or Schengen visa

If your US, UK or Schengen visa is valid on the day you land, you can enter Georgia without applying for anything. The same applies to valid visas or permits from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Israel and Ireland.

The date that matters is your arrival date, not your booking date. An expired 10 year US visa does not count, even if it was multiple entry. We see this mistake every season.

Can Indians with a UAE or GCC residence visa enter Georgia visa free?

Yes. Indians living in the UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman or Bahrain can enter visa free with a residence permit that is valid on the day of entry.

Many websites say Indian GCC residents need at least one year of validity left. That rule was added in 2025, but it applies to 17 specific nationalities such as Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nigeria. India is not on that list, according to the official government ordinance on Matsne.

If your permit is close to expiry, confirm before booking. A quick check is far cheaper than a refused boarding.

From our arrival hall: Indian guests flying in from Kuwait and Dubai usually hand over their passport together with their civil ID or Emirates ID. With both ready, immigration takes a couple of minutes.

How to Apply for a Georgia eVisa from India

Apply on the official portal, pay the 20 USD fee, complete DuVerify within 24 hours, and wait at least 5 working days. Here are the steps in order.

1. Open the official portal. Use only the Georgia eVisa portal run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Lookalike sites charge three to five times more for the same form.
2. Fill in the form. Enter passport details, dates, accommodation and purpose. Upload a clear passport scan and a recent photo.
3. Verify your email and pay within 5 hours. Pay 20 USD plus a 2% service charge by Visa or Mastercard. Unpaid applications are cancelled after 5 hours.
4. Complete DuVerify within 24 hours. A separate email arrives with a DuVerify link. The fee is 15 USD per applicant.
5. Wait for approval. Processing takes at least 5 working days. There is no official express option.
6. Download and print. The approved eVisa arrives as a PDF. Carry a printed copy and keep one saved offline on your phone.

What is DuVerify?

DuVerify is a mandatory identity check added to the Georgia eVisa process. It sits outside the main portal, which is why people miss it.

The link often lands in spam or promotions. Several of our guests nearly lost their application this way. Check every folder the same evening you pay.

How to check your Georgia eVisa status

You can check your application status on the same official portal using your application details. For privacy reasons, only the applicant or a legal representative can get information about the application.

Common form mistakes we see from Indian applicants

• Name spelled differently from the passport, especially with initials.
• Blurry scans taken in poor light.
• Hotel dates that do not match travel dates.
• One parent trying to apply for the whole family in a single form.

Every traveller, including infants, needs a separate application and a separate DuVerify step.

Documents Required for a Georgia eVisa

You need a passport, a passport scan and a photo. Hotel bookings, a return ticket, bank statement and insurance make the file stronger.

Mandatory

• Indian passport, ideally valid for six months beyond your return.
• Colour scan of the passport photo page.
• Recent passport style photo.

Supporting

• Confirmed hotel bookings covering every night.
• Return or onward flight ticket.
• Recent bank statement.
• Insurance that meets the 2026 rule.

For children travelling with one parent, carry a consent letter from the other parent. It is rarely asked for, but it removes any doubt.

A day wise itinerary helps too. It shows immigration exactly where you will be each night. But a consistent file is always easier to process.

Georgia Visa Fee for Indians: The Real Cost in INR

The Georgia eVisa costs about 35.40 USD per person, roughly ₹3,000 to ₹3,300 depending on exchange rates and card charges.

Many guides only mention the 20 USD fee. That leaves families short by nearly half.

For a family of four, budget around ₹12,000 to ₹13,500 for visas alone. All fees are non refundable, which is why getting the form right the first time matters.

Processing Time and How Long You Can Stay

Processing takes a minimum of 5 working days. Apply at least three weeks before travel, and earlier for May to September or the New Year season.

Your approved eVisa shows your permitted days. Across all entries, your total stay cannot exceed 90 days in any 180 day period. Most Indian holidays in Georgia last 6 to 10 days, so this rarely becomes an issue.

Overstaying can lead to fines at exit and trouble on future visits. If your plans change mid trip, act before your days run out.

Can Indians work or study in Georgia on an eVisa?

No. The eVisa covers tourism, business meetings, transit and family visits. Work and study need a long term visa, which requires an in person application at the Embassy of Georgia in New Delhi.

New in 2026: Mandatory Travel Insurance for Georgia

From 1 January 2026, every tourist entering Georgia must have health and accident insurance with at least 30,000 GEL coverage for the whole stay. This applies to eVisa holders and visa free travellers alike.

According to the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the policy must:

• Cover at least 30,000 GEL.
• Be valid from arrival to departure, including both days.
• Be issued by a Georgian or foreign insurer.
• Be in English or Georgian, printed or digital.

The rule comes from Government Decree No. 602 under the Law of Georgia on Tourism.

Does an Indian travel insurance policy work?

Yes, if it meets the conditions above. Many Indian policies already offer far higher medical cover.

If your policy shows INR or USD instead of GEL, the amount must clearly exceed 30,000 GEL. When it looks close, ask your insurer for a short written confirmation. For senior parents, check the age limits in the policy terms.

What we see at the airport

In the first months of 2026, checks were inconsistent. Some of our guests were asked for their policy on arrival. Others were not asked at all.

Airlines have also started reminding passengers at check in. Our advice never changes: keep the policy in your document folder, not buried in an email.

What Immigration Checks When You Land in Georgia

Immigration usually asks how long you are staying and where. Keep these in your hand luggage, one folder per family:

• Passport and printed eVisa or qualifying foreign visa.
• Return or onward ticket.
• Hotel or tour confirmation.
• Insurance policy.
• Some cash or an international card.

Arriving at Tbilisi, Kutaisi or Batumi

Most Indian guests land at Tbilisi International Airport, usually through Dubai, Doha or Istanbul. The process is quick when documents are ready.

Some low cost routes land at Kutaisi, about three hours from Tbilisi by road. It is also a good base for a Kutaisi tour with caves and canyons nearby. Summer travellers heading to the Black Sea sometimes fly straight into Batumi and start with a Batumi tour.

Entering by road from Armenia or Azerbaijan

The Georgia eVisa is valid at land borders, including Sadakhlo from Armenia and the Red Bridge crossing from Azerbaijan. Land checks can be more detailed, so carry printed copies of everything.

Your first hour in Georgia

Once you clear immigration, the priorities are simple: a ride and a working phone. Booking a private airport transfer in advance means a driver is waiting in the arrival hall, which matters with kids and luggage after a long flight.

Why Georgia eVisa Applications Get Rejected

Most applications from India go through without trouble. Refusals usually come from avoidable issues:

• Missing or unclear documents.
• Details that do not match across passport, form and bookings.
• No clear accommodation plan for the full stay.
• Past immigration problems in any country.
• Weak proof of funds for the trip length.

If refused, the fee is not returned. You can fix the issue and reapply, which is usually faster than appealing.

A pattern our reservations desk sees often: a family books hotels for only the first two nights and plans to “decide later.” The purpose looks unclear. When they reapply with every night covered, the file tells a complete story.

A Typical Trip from Mumbai, Start to Finish

Here is how a standard family booking from India usually unfolds with our team.

30 days before: Dates arrive on WhatsApp. No US or GCC visas in the family, so the eVisa is their route. We confirm hotels and share the itinerary.

21 days before: One application per person, children included. DuVerify done the same evening.

7 days before: Visas approved. Insurance bought, well above 30,000 GEL. Everything printed into one folder.

Arrival day: A few minutes at immigration. The driver is waiting, SIM cards are sorted, and they reach the hotel before lunch.

The first full day usually starts slow, with a Tbilisi city tour through the Old Town, sulphur baths and Narikala Fortress. Jet lagged kids handle a city day far better than a long drive.

Day two often goes to Mtskheta, the old capital just 30 minutes away, where parents love the UNESCO listed churches and grandparents appreciate the short travel time.

After that come the mountains on the Kazbegi tour, snow and panoramic views on the Gudauri tour, and wine country around Telavi.
